NASPA FORGES ALLIANCFES WITH SHIPPING LINES
General Manager of Nevis Air and Sea Ports Authority (NASPA), Spencer Hanley, while in Miami last week to attend Seatrade Cruise Shipping Convention and Super Yacht Symposium, used the opportunity to foster improved relations with Tropical Shipping and Bernuth Lines.
Mr. Hanley visited Tropical Shipping’s main offices in Riviera Beach Florida where he met with Assistant Vice President Mr. Tim Martin and Leeward Trade Manager Mr. Pedro Moline. Coming out of the meeting, Mr. Hanley is optimistic that Tropical will assist NASPA in the acquisition of certain equipment, warehouse shelving, and staff training in the area of warehouse operations.
The NASPA general manager also held talks with Bernuth Agencies Executive Vice President, Mr. Tom Paelinck with the hope of reestablishing Nevis as a transshipment port for that shipping line. “We have an agreement in principle” said Mr. Hanley. “All that is needed now is for a formal agreement to be drafted and signed”. Nevis will then become a transshipment port for Bernuth cargo destined for Anguilla, Dominica, Montserrat and St. Kitts. This type of activity will greatly enhance NASPA’s revenue generating capacity.
Mr. Hanley also made a courtesy call at the offices of Florida Detroit Diesel-Allison. This is the auto transmission company that repaired the airport fire truck transmission in February, and deployed a technician to Nevis to assist local mechanics in getting the fire truck back in service. Regional Sales Manager, Mr. Armando Valdes has agreed to extend credit to NASPA to facilitate future purchases, especially in case of emergency. Mr. Hanley noted that it was a fruitful visit, “especially knowing that one of their Field Service Technicians, Javeh Francis, is a Nevisian from the village of Brown Hill”.
